Hi everyone! I have a 6/4 BBb 3 valve Martin Mammoth tuba with a recording bell. This is the best example of a Martin Mammoth I have every played. The horn is even throughout all ranges, and is fully chromatic down to the pedal range with false tones, which speak loud and clear. The valves are in pristine condition, and there are no major dents. The horn also has a beautiful patina. After thorough playing, I have come to the conclusion that this horn only needs three valves. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to try it!

The only reason I'm selling it is because my fiancee has been nagging me to sell one of my tubas, and I guess three 6/4's is too many. Oops! I'm asking $2,999, or any reasonable offer. I wish! She is firmly rooted in the woodwind world. When we first started dating, she had no knowledge about the finer points of the tuba or brass instruments in general. Over the years, she begrudgingly picked up quite a lot of knowledge. She can carry on a conversation with the tubists at her university now! Knowledge comes at a price, though... After I got the Grand Orchestral, she asked me, "isn't your Cerveny a 6/4 too?" I said that it is. Then she said, "well why do you need two BATs if they serve the same purpose?" This is a warning to all tuba players. As much as you want your significant other to understand what you do, sometimes it's better if they see any large brass instrument as a tuba and know nothing more about it!

A good woman is a wonderful problem to have.
Similarly, so is "too many" tubas.

This is one hell of a monster! Do you like to feel your sound not only in your ensemble? You feel this in your chest, the ground, the walls... you name it. For such a horn out there, it plays so easily with a very beautiful sound, and intonation. This is a solid horn!!! Few words can describe how it plays... to sum it up ( Holy Hell! OMG! )

Even if you dont want to buy it, come play this piece of history (it may change your mind).

And he isnt joking, his fiancé will kill him if he keeps it... sadly... :,(
It needs a good home and a band that desires a true american TUBA sound!

I want to keep my mouth shut and did so successfully after your first post. But this second reference is more than I can resist.

I don't recommend music as a career to many people. You need a clear head to progress in your craft and career... and these are two challenging parts of the profession you have chosen. Someone nagging about instruments does not make a clear head about your craft or your career.

Change a personal or professional direction sooner rather than later to avoid a train wreck because the scenario painted here shows a train wreck is coming.

This is not my business but you posted it for all to see and as the saying goes... been there, seen that, done that. I thought I ought to let you know what's coming. I offer apologies where appropriate.

Seems a little dark to me... Hopefully not everyone selling a tuba with input from their spouse has to go through whatever you did.

Alex, I appreciate your concern, but I assure you it's not as bad as you're thinking. I am not a career tubist, nor do I ever see myself being the principal in a major city. I have a nice city job with regular hours which allows me to play and direct in community groups and gig with the occasional brass quintet. Tubas are a passionate hobby of mine, and my fiancee is not out of her place in the slightest by telling me that 3 BATs (remember I have 3 or 4 other tubas AND a sousaphone) is a little excessive. I had been thinking of selling anyway because the only 6/4 I pull out is the Grand Orchestral. The other two are great, but I've grown quite attached to that Conn. A gentleman asked me the bell diameter the other day. I'll put it here for anyone else who's curious! 24 inches.

Okay, I love big 'murican tubas... and I have several. I wish to HE|| I could grab this!!! I played it in a parking lot and it set of seismometers in the next state. And I was playing mp.

I've had a love for these old Martin bell-fronts since playing on-stage for "Guys and Dolls" in the 80s. The dude in the pit had one and I was entranced. If I had the wherewithal, I'd own this in a billisecond. The valves are perfect, the subtones are gorgeous, and people were coming up to us wondering what the f--- was making that awesome sound. I'm in love with it. Tyler's a sicko not keeping this. And his fiance's keeping him anyway

This is the most beautiful sounding tuba I've heard in 10 years. And it's in the top ten of easiest to play.
