WTB: Decent inexpensive 3 valve BBb tuba

One of my section mates in a couple of the bands I'm in is looking for an inexpensive, around $1000, BBb tuba to replace the beater he has been playing. He has been playing on an old, beat up King 1140 that plays OK, but needs a lot of work. I suggested that he just get it repaired, but he thinks he would like to replace it.
3 valves would be fine and he would prefer pistons to rotaries. If you have something that might fit the bill, or know where I might find one let me know.
Thanks!

Thanks, but he would rather buy an older "name" brand horn than one of these Chinese horns. Even if their quality is getting better, he's uncomfortable taking the chance.

I couldn't find the brand.
NEW + LOW PRICE + NO BRAND (or unfamiliar brand) =
Chinese or Indian, PROBABLY junk.

Try harder

I suggest trying harder (not to imply that you haven't already)to convince him to repair his King 1140. It's less of a gamble, not knowing what he might end up with buying a used horn. With a repair, he can guarantee he will be moving into something better than he is currently playing.
Maybe this website can help convince him.

Have your buddy call Harv's Happy Horns 610-369-8844 (in PA) to see about another horn. Harv could either trade or fix up the King.
Is the king a 3 valve in front? I am not familiar with the model designation.

The King is their 3 top action valve convertable. It is a relatively small horn and after speaking with him again he is looking for something a little larger, although top action valves would be fine. I know that at his price point it will be tough to find something good, but it's doable.
