I’ve decided to sell my 1912 Martin. This is the large size Eb horn of the time period. The horn is 33” tall and has a 20” bell. It has 3 upright valves and is bright silver. The false tones for Ab and G are very clear. I’ve not tried lower tones. The horn has had it’s valves rebuilt by Lee Stofer about 5 years ago. Lee also tuned the horn to 440, added a spit valve on the first valve slide, patch a small leak on the lead pipe and removed several dents. There are a few minor dents, but most would say it is in great shape and an excellent player. The finish is 98% complete. I’ve had the mouthpiece receiver replaced so it accepts American shank mouthpieces. It does have a patch on the 3rd valve slide outer tubing. This was also checked and deemed in good shape by Lee. It comes with an SKB hard case. The case is not perfect, but very in good shape. It could be used as the shipping container.

Selling this horn is hard for me. I’ve had it for 40 years. I’m asking $1800 plus shipping. The horn is located in Woodbury, MN. I will ship, but only within the continental US. I will supply pictures on request.

bump. This horn has a long history. It was once played (aka tested) by Oystein Baadsvik. He liked the sound.

Bump - for those that are looking and thinking, boy that's a lot for an old Eb, consider that this one has been fully reconditioned. The valves are like a new horn, very tight and don't leak. Most old horns have not been tuned to 440, this one has, by Lee Stofer. Most of the less expensive Eb's have considerable dents and missing parts. This one is complete and has very few minor dents. The finish is nearly complete and shines up really nice. It comes with a good hard case. These things are what makes it worth a bit more than the more common offerings in this age group.

Bump - fun fact, bore is 0.682 at 2nd valve. Easy blowing horn. This is the renowned version which has the reputation of being a very good horn.

So what does that beast weigh? I actually live a few miles up the road from you in Shoreview. I'm the guy with the little shiny 100 year old Lyon-Healy Eb Helicon at Tuba Christmas, you usually beat me out on age with by 20 years with your old one : )

It's a pretty horn.

This horn has been sold. My friend of 40 years has moved on to a new home. The new owner passed the interview process and will treat my friend with the love it deserves. He will use it for quintet and will have the help of college level professors to help it bring joy to others.
