Alexander CC tuba

Post by Craig Knox »

FOR SALE:

Alexander model 163
4 rotary valve CC tuba
serial # 3797

A great specimen of a classic tuba!
This horn is in excellent playing condition;
original unlacquered brass; a few minor dents of no consequence.
Photos available upon request.

I purchased this instrument from its original owner, Mark Tetrault (now of the Toronto Symphony), who - if memory serves - bought it new in the late 1970's. It has been cared for by first-rate repairmen who have made some repairs and modifications over the years:

custom-made (removeable) mouthpiece adapter which fits the extra-large receiver to allow it to accept most mouthpieces

lead-pipe has been unsoldered from the bell

3rd and 4th valves have been reversed to turn the same direction as 1st and 2nd

1st and 4th valves vented

custom-made spring-loaded main tuning slide adjustment mechanism

bottom-bow has been removed (and replaced!) for dent-removal, and guard removed and replaced with brass rib

instrument recently chemically cleaned

Buy this tuba for $4,500! Contact me by e-mail address below.

Thanks folks,

Craig
