1902 Conn BBb Helicon

Post by SousaWarrior9 »

Update: Helicon has been spoken for. Thanks for all the interest.
Here is a Conn BBb Helicon from 1902. The best part of this historic horn is that is still plays, and quite well! The valves have been replated, so they function like new valves, despite being on such on old horn. As a result, compression is great and valves are smooth. The slides are also in great shape with little to no wear. Aside from the silver plating on the valves, the horn is all original, with a great patina. Sound is very direct and punchy, and the horn is incredibly lightweight for its size. It also has a set of low-pitch slide extenders to put the horn in low-pitch BBb, if you're into that.
The Issues: The horn is in great shape and relatively dent free except for one crease in the bell. I'm not sure the neck and bits are original, and I do not have a case with this one. Approximately .732" bore, like most Conns, and about an 18" bell.

$1,800

Shipping would be via greyhound preferably Or if you are willing to meet me in person In the central Illinois area, even better.

I was hoping to work out a trade with someone who possesses a Martin Mammoth of the front-action variety, because it would be easier to cut out the middle man, so to speak, because if I sold the helicon, that's exactly where the money would go. Sadly, no one has yet taken me up on the offer, so I may consider selling it outright. Would't want to ship it though if I did, though. I could be persuaded to let it go for around $3,000 if no one wanted to trade.

I'm surprised, as I thought this one would sell the quickest. Not every day do you come across a collector's item like this that still plays like a new horn :tuba:

Don't be afraid to send an offer my way on this horn.
I've had a few inquiry's so far, but no done deals as of yet, so get it while you can.
Also open to partial or complete trades, particularly if your horn says "Martin" on the bell
