This classic Rudy Meinl horn was bought 4 years ago from the previous owner and not played much. It is a great playing Rudy with S-Linkage Valves and an “old-school,” 3rd Valve Slide Pull. I now must part with it because it isn’t getting played for several reasons including some health issues (recent cardiac event and I use a wheelchair and can't pick the horn up very easily), the horn needs some work (brace need to be soldered, some tuning slide dents, the bell has been worked on), and I don’t have the room and no reason to just have it stored.

I am told from its previous owner that this horn was possibly part of the first Rudy Meinl Tubas that were imported to the USA in the late ‘60’s/early 70’s. I cannot confirm nor deny these facts. I do know that it has not been updated, has a few minor dents & requires a little bit of work, it plays as I expected & hoped it would play and that I hope it gets into the hands of someone who will appreciate it’s classic look, traditional sound, and will get much use out of the horn. Once upon a time I was excited to update the valves, get a new 3rd Valve Slide Pull and have it cleaned. Perhaps that interests you!

Included in the sale of the horn is an Altieri Gig Bag.

Buyer assumes all shipping responsibilities and costs.

The horn is located in the Greenwich Village Neighborhood in Manhattan, New York. All sales final.

Also Available:

SOLD: Brand New: Baltimore Brass Tuba Stand: $80.00

Sam! Say it ain't so! :(

This tuba is AWESOME!

Many times over the last few years, I've mentioned that one summer, a very kind person let me borrow his Rudy 3/4 while my Rudy 4/4 was in the shop. I loved that 3/4, and didn't want to give it back (joking!).

Well... THAT PERSON WAS SAM, AND THIS IS THAT TUBA. Has to be one of the best playing and sounding tubas I've ever played. SO easy to play, and such a great sound. Perhaps all Rudy 3/4's are like this...? Don't know... but this one was amazing. I referred to it as "magical," because it was effortless and made me sound far better than I am. :) After those minor repairs, it'll be even better.

Sam is an awesome person, and I'm truly sorry to hear that you aren't able to use this great tuba. You're still a heck of a euph player! I hope you can make a quick and easy sale, to a lucky, lucky tuba player!

Any chance this was originally one of Pat Landolfi's 3/4 Rudy's? These are true 4/4 tubas, despite the nomenclature.

It very well could be...is there anyway to find out from an expert? There is no real serial number just some numbers scratched on lead pipe.

This instrument came through my shop a number of years ago for sale, and I was sorry to see it go. It's a great instrument!

Also, and equally important, I've know Sam for 25+ years and he is a great guy!

If you're looking for an excellent instrument and want to deal with a stand-up person, buy this tuba!

I think Sam's tuba is different... but the same vintage (s linkages, coat hook 3rd valve pull...)

Sam's tuba plays great, truly an excellent classic Rudy 3/4. Sam says it needs a little work (nothing scary)... Damn, it'll really play great after that!

Hi Adam...the tuba in the picture is def. not the horn I have for sale. The horn for sale still has the 3rd Valve "pull" on it which looks like a coat hangar. Prob not one of Pat's. Could be a different one...

Thanks Bort for another quick reply.
