It's time for me to thin the herd a bit, I'm selling my June 2001 Holton TU330S in nearly new condition. I'm the original owner of this extremely rare instrument. The valve ports have been flattened out to improve flow by Martin Wilk and re-plated by Anderson's Plating during the summer of 2016. Lightweight MAW stems, MAW finger buttons, and additional braces added to lift the leadpipe off of the bugle. Price is $6,000.00 USD and the horn is located in NW Arkansas. Instrument comes with an original Cronkite brown leather gig bag. I would prefer not to ship this horn and will meet buyer half way in the continental USA.

I've added a photo to show the size of the horn, I'm 5'6" and at the time of this photo of me and my horn I was close to 290 lbs.

08/09/2019 - Added more photos and lowered price.

In terms of size (physical size and size of sound), how does it compare to the Conn 52j?

The Holton is about the same overall size as the 52j, they both fit in the same gig bag, but the valveset has a smaller bore than the conn, and the valveset wrap is much tighter. I'm able to do standing/strolling gigs using a thick leather bass strap rigged to the stock strap eyelets on the Holton, the 52j is strictly a sit down horn. The sound is full in comparison to the 52j, I haven't been able to over blow on the Holton. As a matter of size comparison that's the 52j just out of frame in the photo. Let me know if you have any questions or want to see specific photos.

Is this a four-valve tuba?

Yes, it is a 4 valve. There is a secondary 4th valve slide in the back for easy pulls for those low notes. I had a couple of techs look at it to add the 5th valve, but the wrap is so tight there's no room. Mastering the rear fourth slide I don't even miss the 5th valve.

Just wanted to add a few items to this incredible horn, I'll throw in the original Holton mouthpiece, polish rag, and docs from the factory that I received with the horn back in 2001.

She looks a real player. Sort of like comparing HMS Warspite to some over-sized tub that accomplished nothing during its career (Warspite still holds the record for the longest ship to ship strike). If I were in the market, I'd check this out.
