FS: 6/4 Conn/MM/Kanstul BBb tuba $3000

Post by Adam C. »

I am selling a unique 6/4 BBb tuba. Converted from a Conn 20J, it has a 4 valve MM valveset with easy slide access. Includes an unlacquered 20" Kanstul upright bell and the original recording bell, plus a custom Cronkite bag (maroon color, fits with the upright bell only).

Pull ring on first slide. 4th valve slide is well-aligned and has ~9-10 inches of easy pull, allows for nice adjustments down to low C. Typical large Conn slightly flat 3rd partial F, 1-3 to raise pitch or just blow it high in louder passages. High Bb is high, likes to be played 2-3. Otherwise very accessible intonation.

This instrument will put out some sound, either velvety string bass or athletic crunch depending on what you give it. Recording bell option makes for a perfect Dixieland or outdoor gig horn. Kanstul bell looks and sounds great.

Located in CT, willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet buyer. Buyer covers any shipping and insurance.

Pictures include a PT-6 for size comparison.

Edited to include asking price of $3000. Feel free to make offer, not looking for trades.

This horn is still for sale. I've had some questions about the tuba, I may be recording a couple of videos of me playing the instrument in a week or two. I hope it helps answer the questions.

I'm not sure how to answer about the question of quality. The valves work fine, though they are somewhat tight and need oil if not played often. The slides are well-aligned and there are no leaks.
