1925 Conn 28K 4 valve Eb Sousaphone - NYC

Post by Ltrain »

Had a shift of financial priorities this holiday season. I‘m looking to get back exactly what I have in this awesome horn, not a dime more ($1600) OBO... seriously, I’ll accept fair offers as well as drive 100 or so miles from NYC.

This includes:

- $450 in repair and customization work just a couple weeks ago at the top brass repair shop in NYC (chem cleaned; precision valve alignment; all new corks, springs, and washers), thumb ring removed (included), and trimmed main slide and 2nd valve slide to bring it up to modern pitch.

- $200 brand-new, genuine Conn, silver neck and bits, precision-fit to receiver

- Custom purple/black/blue finger buttons!

- Neotech shoulder pad

Cosmetics are great for a 95yo sousa. A few dings throughout; only missing plating is on the front of the bell. The valves, you ask?? Some superficial wear, but compression is in tact! Lotsa pop with normal valve oil! My tech described the valves as “high tolerance, with many years left before replating.”

Plays great; punchy! Normal 28K tendencies: 2nd partial will ride low if you let it (air!) and low Bb plays like a low C on a good German F tuba... narrower slot, but it’ll honk just fine once you’re accustomed. Other than those quirks, intonation is normal for this model and predictable.

Shipping is definitely possible for a serious buyer!
