Manbrass wrote:Hello everyone, I’m listing a 5V Alex 163 I’ve had for a bit. This particular one is one of the better ones I’ve played and plays remarkably well intune. Very big boomy sound. One of the previous owners put a goldbrass bell on it and added a 5th valve using all Alexander parts. The setup on the 5th is a 2/3 (Old Miraphone system). The first valve is vented and the leadpipe is floated aswell. Overall the instrument is nice and plays pretty well. As with any instrument it has quirks but only just a couple for me. Pictures will be sent on request. Serious inquires only please. Not interested in trades.
Horn is located in Houston Texas
Price: $6850
This was my horn prior and I will add a little more here. This is a rare Alex 163 CC that actually does play well in tune. No alternative fingerings are needed, and the newer GB bell is the same that is used on the modern Alex 163 tubas, 18" if my memory is correct. Some of the tuning slide circuits have been reversed and all slide work was done top shelf. Someone before me did a lot of work on this horn and it's in my top 5 best Alex CC tubas I have ever played. If I didn't already own a great Alex it would have taken 10k to convince me to sell it.
Anyone looking for a great Alex will be blown away with this one and will not be disappointed in anyway whatsoever.

If this tuba previously lived in Texas and then Georgia... Then it's a known tuba to me as well, and reported to be a winner.

This may be the same horn your thinking of, as that seems to be the path it took. Not sure who did all the work but it was done correctly.

It wasn't all that long ago, but I just don't remember who it was in Texas. I very nearly traded my Willson for this tuba, but the logistics didn't quite work out when he was coming up here to MN, or something like that... again, it's been 2 or 3 years.
Nice looking tuba, and with Alexander parts, it wasn't a cheap set of improvements.

I had it for a few years. Good horn for auditions, local orchestras here in Atlanta, German folk goup, etc. I am too old for auditioning so I now play a ZO 6000 BBb acquired from Tom at Mackbrass. The ZO is good too.

I thought it was yours, Brent, but I wouldn't have outed you. Both you and the previous seller seemed to like it a lot!
