SOLD FS: Miraphone 1281 “Petruschka” $8000 OBO

Hey folks,
I’m going a different direction with my F playing and am reluctantly putting this up for sale. This tuba is one of the best tubas I’ve ever played and I am truly sad I can’t hold onto it forever. I am the 2nd owner and have owned it for about 2.5 years, taking me through grad school.
The horn has been used as my main axe in quintets, misc. chamber groups, and solo performances so there’s a few places on the back (LH spot) and bottom bow near where there’s some scratches due to belts and shirt buttons. A few tiny dings on the bell and in the end of the main tuning slide and the first valve slide; none of which affect the pitch. The slides have just fallen out a few times (previous owner). Besides the cosmetic stuff, this horn is in really great playing shape. It has an incredible sound, especially in the low register; one of the best low registers in the F tuba market in my opinion. Really resonant and not stuffy or too open like a lot of the other F tubas. The only other Bass tuba I’ve ever played that challenged it was a 70-80’s era Besson 983 Eb.
I can negotiate price, I will just need the horn until the end of February or early March as that is a gap I have some important performances and am waiting for a different horn to be shipped to me.
Comes with a MTS hard case and a Miraphone gig bag.
