Mirafone BBb S186 4V for sale MTS fiberglass case included
$4500 or best reasonable offer (price reduced!)
I bought this tuba new in 1988. The sale is due to purchase of another tuba and with a total of 5, the house has exceeded maximum tuba capacity.
The tuba is in great shape, like new condition. It has a few very minor dings but virtually no wear.
The lacquer is in excellent shape. The valves and valve linkages are also in great shape, fast, tight and quiet.
This is an excellent playing horn with good intonation and classic Mirafone sound (this one was built in the Mirafone not Miraphone) days. If I recall correctly, it was well in excess of $4000 in 1988 dollars when bought new (with a much cheaper wood hard case). I picked it out from a group of 4-5 tubas and I liked the sound of this one the best. I also quite like the clean look of no bell krantz but that is a personal preference.
I have been thinking about selling it for some time because I just don't play it enough but it is so hard to find one this age in such good condition, I couldn't bring myself to do it. But the purchase of another horn pushed me over the hump to sell. If you have ever played a nice Mirafone BBb 186 with miniball valve linkages, this one feels, plays, sounds and has the intonation of any well made Mirafone.
Pickup in the Raleigh, NC area. I prefer not to ship the horn but willing to travel a fair distance for purchase or serious trials. Will ship via Greyhound or other method assuming buying is willing to take possession of well packed horn at time of shipping. Will provide references.
