Basic info - Hirsbrunner HB2 (1999), $10,500 OBO, Pittsburgh, PA, Blue Cordura Cronkhite Bag
It's time for me to part with my beautiful Hirsbrunner HB2. It has served me well in wind bands, quintets, brass bands, orchestras, and beyond. I am the second owner and purchased the horn from the first owner. He played the horn for about three years when it was new. He had it made in 1999 while he was in college and decided to change majors and didn't pursue music any longer so the horn sat in the case for a little over a decade until I purchased it in 2016. I keep the horn in great shape and get it a chem clean about once every 14 months and I bathe it every 3-4 months. I've played on about 5 HB2's and the only one I've found to be even more free blowing is Dave Zerkel's old HB2P. I've let plenty of friends try this horn out and I've never had someone that wasn't in love with how it played.
The horn is in great shape. There is almost no silver wear except for the spots pictured on the back of the valve section directly adjacent to the rotor caps. There are a few small spots where the silver plating came off near the leadpipe on the player's side of the horn, also pictured. There are light scratches down the left side brace but nothing you could see from even a foot away. The bell was dented at one point in time for about a month before being repaired by Bill Smith Music in Marietta, GA. As you can see in the pictures, he did a remarkable job. I took a picture of the impact from this incident and you'll notice how minute it is. The rotors are nylon insert and have never failed me in the slightest. I've played outdoor concerts in the Georgia summers and in the Pittsburgh winter and I have never had an issue with the rotors, I don't need to take any special care of them for any type of weather. I am just trying to include every detail to maintain a transparent sale.
The only other work I had done on the horn was getting the rotors vented by Kevin Bowen of North Georgia Hornworks. The first rotor requires a slightly larger bumper to prevent air leak from the vent but it hasn't been a problem; the sound is not compromised. It has been nice to have them vented as all of the slides are very freely moving and easy to access.
I'm looking to get $10,500 for the horn with its one year old Chronkite Gig Bag (Blue Cordura). The horn is located in Pittsburgh, PA and I occasionally make a stop in my home town of Marietta, GA near Atlanta. I can ship if the buyer pays in advance and assumes liability and properly insures the package. I would also be willing to drive a reasonable distance for a very serious buyer. If anyone would like to come to Pittsburgh they are more than welcome to try the horn out.
The horn is currently clean, the picture in the grass is from September but all other pictures were taken on the day of this posting, Saturday, February 22.
