Sadly a colleague of mine has passed and his family has asked me to post on their behalf.
For sale a beautiful Meinlschmidt (same family as the famous valve maker) BBb Helicon made around ca.1900
Specs:
Unlacquered raw brass
4 rotary valves with a 19.50mm bore
Bell diameter 37cm
Weight 8.35kg
Overall dimensions 100cm x 70cm x 40cm
Comes with a custom gig bag from Akkord, a Hercules DS552B Helicon Stand and a B&S 8/1 mouthpiece.
It is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. The valves have excellent compression and are nice and quiet. As you can see from the photos, it has been lengthened to A=440Hz. It also plays extremely well, generally in tune and is loud as ....
It's basically a small Kaiser BBb bent into a helicon form. The bell and bows were likely made by Bohland & Fuchs, who were at that time, neighbors from Meinlschmidt. The paddle assembly and valve caps sport some pretty fancy period engraving.
The Helicon is currently located in Berlin, Germany for testing.
The price is 2200€
Shipping is possible although I would prefer pickup.
Any questions, please feel free to write me a PM or an email mail(at)berlinertuba.com
Hope everyone is well and all the best from Berlin,
TheBerlinerTuba
