SOLD: MW 46 6v F tuba

Post by arpthark »

I am offering my great 4+2 MW 46 F tuba for sale.

This instrument is from the 1970s and is in raw brass. It has that classic German rotary F sound, similar to my old Alex F.

It has six valves. Left hand is 6, 5 instead of the more common 5, 6 but this has not been an issue for me. While some literature calls this a 6/4 size F tuba, it is about the size of a PT-10 but with a smaller, non-graduated bore. Bell is about 14".

I have used this instrument in quintet gigs, teaching and a recent solo recital. Intonation is great. If you are used to playing a German F tuba in the low register, you will have no surprises here. Valves were converted from old S-linkage to new miniballs, which is fast and easy.

This horn was recently serviced by Carl Chudy in Mystic, CT. Comes with a Tuba World bag in fair condition (one stuck zipper and some lining tears).

Located in southeastern CT but willing to drive a bit to meet you around the northeast. Would prefer not to ship but can do so if buyer pays shipping costs and assumes all responsibility for the condition of the instrument once it has left my hands. Asking $3,200 OBO.

More pics coming soon. Since these were taken I polished the raw brass.

Thanks!

Blake

Wow! Nice horn and a great price. It would seem that a competent repair shop could swap the tubing around and change the 5th and 6th valves to the normal setup pretty easily if that was an absolute necessity.

... especially since there's already no lacquer.

Thank goodness! I was weakening, and wondering if my detachable bell 186 would sell for enough to be worth the trouble.
