Besson New Standard Compensating C Tuba

Post by tuba.bobby »

Hey Guys,

I'm selling my Besson New Standard Compensating C Tuba. Cut from a BBb by Andy Clennel in Birmingham, UK. Previously owned by Graham Sibley and recently used by myself for an audition in January.

Comes with hard Besson case, which needs repair; missing a wheel and the shell has a hole where this once was.

Might suit someone who has played C in brass bands previously but didn’t get that matching sound. Also could be used to get used to C fingering before you add the fifth valve or for those don’t/can’t use their little fingers.

Now playing on a PT-5 which suits me better, hence the sale.

Looking for £3000/$4000 plus shipping. Also open to offers.

Would prefer to sell within the UK, but happy to discuss how to get it across the pond also.

Any questions let me know.

Could you comment on the intonation. I had one of these sent to me in S.F. from some shop in the U.S. (I forget where). It had a great sound, but it was very 'out of tune' with itself. I had to send it back.

It's mostly fine for me - i just gave it a good 30 minutes blow with a tuner, and the only notes that stick out as needing lipping are the Ab on 2+3 and Eb on 2+3 which you'd get used to. But shouldn't take much to fix up for someone who knows what they're doing if you desperately want to make it a point and shoot horn.

Besson made a very few CC models. I was able to play on one for a week or two in undergrad school but was not moved to buy it. A very solid sound.
