Just a quick post here, can get photos up later as needed. But if you know what this is, you know what this is.
It's a brand new James R New, Geib model mouthpiece. A faithful and very accurate copy of the original Conn Geib. Outstanding quality, Jim New is top notch!
I asked Jim to make this for me over the spring, with a larger 8.4mm throat. Standard shank.
It's an excellent mouthpiece, and I really like it! But...either by design or by habit, I just prefer something else more, and know that the New Geib will just not get used.
Only a few minutes of play time on it. Perfect condition. Here's a chance for you to get an outstanding mouthpiece, of which very few exist, and with no wait.
$190

I'll have to measure when I get home, but I believe it's a 33mm diameter, rim is narrow at around 7.5mm or so?
Also, Bill, check your email.

A diagram from the master himself - I filled in the green Conn 1 outline, which isn't much help here, but you should be able to see the red contours against the standard Helleberg blue - inside contours only, the outside is of course just the Conn 1.

Isn't this similar to the larger throat option Lee Stofer is offering with his Geib? I think he calls it an Air Force, or something like that.

Air Corps... And yes, this is a similar concept.

FYI, I paid $210 for this, and played I only for a few minutes. In case that context is helpful for anyone.

I know this is a stupid question, but I can be as stupid as the next person. Do you think Geibs with bigger throats work better on pistons or rotors? . . . how about big tubas vs. small tubas? . . . how about silver vs. lacquer - JUST KIDDING!
I'm skeptical of mouthpieces with bigger throats, but maybe the shallower, pear shaped bowl of the Geib compensates.

IMO, the Geib mouthpieces add pop and clarity to rotary tubas, while keeping a big full sound. Works well on piston and rotor tubas, but I really like it on rotor tubas.
My one beef with the original Geib is the small throat, and that for the way I play, it backs up on me a bit. I've been playing on an 8.4mm mouthpiece for a few years, so this seemed like an obvious thing to try.
And actually, I like it a LOT. Problem is, the mouthpiece I've been using for the last 4 years is still so much more natural and "home" to me, I don't think I'll be changing. So... I should let the Geib go.

Oh, and big vs small tubas... I dunno, depends on the tuba for me.

I wasn't being too serious with that one. Even less so with "silver vs. lacquer".
What's buggin' me about your mouthpiece - as in: it looks tempting! - is the look of that rim. I like a small rounded rim like that. I have a Dillon/Pat Sheridan Geib that looks real similar. It's sized for bass tuba, but I love the feel of the rim.

I really like the narrow rim, too -- I think it's very comfortable.

One more bump...
My Thein RCC is still the winner for me. Either for familiarity or for because it's a good mouthpiece. I dunno. But the James New Geib is a GREAT mouthpiece in its own right.
