For sale is my silver PT-15, a 5-valve F tuba in silver plate, excellent condition. This tuba was purchased originally in 2007, and I acquired it in 2010. I understand the original owner had some work done to it, which I may not remember 100%, but the 1st and 5th valves are vented, I believe the slides were lapped, the first valve slide cut, and the valves were "scooped," the result of which makes this tuba very free-blowing compared to other F tubas I have played, and the low register is nice and open. I wouldn't call it idiot-proof, but it's never "stuffy."
The intonation is good - top space G tends towards flat, but the previous work made it so that you can play it just fine if the right pitch is in your head. Low register intonation is pretty easy to manage with the 4th slide, although I guess the previous owner used the 5th slide (hence the vented valve). Whatever path you choose, there aren't any crazy quirks.
The horn sounds great, especially in solo work. Both myself and the previous owner have won concerto competitions with it. I can share recordings on request.
Recently cleaned/serviced by Dana Hofer.
Price is $7000, plus shipping if you need it. The horn is located in Milwaukee, WI, and I'll drive a few hours to meet/deliver. PM or email at 10725145 *at* live.mercer.edu
Pictures here, showing the horn overall and the most notable cosmetic flaws.
