Greetings all,

I thought I would take a minute to blow some horns for myself and some others. Many of these works were commissioned and premiered by the Bowling Green State University Tuba/Euphonium Studio. The following works have recently been released for sale:

Bolero for tuba/euph ensemble and Multiple Personalities for tuba and piano, both by Kim Archer, are available through C. Alan Publications. www.c-alanpublications.com/

Jingle Bells, Fum Fum Fum, Contrapuntal Christmas, Willy Tell, We Three Kings, and Silent Night for tuba/euph quartet, arranged by me, are available from Tuba-Euphonium Press. www.tubaeuphoniumpress.com/

Toowaba for tuba/euph quartet by Jonathan Crane is available from Tuba-Euphonium Press. www.tubaeuphoniumpress.com/

¿Que Pasa? for tuba and piano by Eric Knechtges is available from Tuba-Euphonium Press. www.tubaeuphoniumpress.com/

Many thanks!

Tim

LV,

Good suggestion, and gladly!

Bolero is for 8 part (4 euph, 4 tuba), loosely based on the Ravel, though pretty much only in name. The work has a catchy melody that is passed throughout the ensemble and changes style from section to section. Some short improv sections (a few measures each) are in the tuba parts.

Multiple Personalities for solo tuba and piano is more of a duet at times. The work was written specifically for me, and the movements reflect my various likes (and yes, I too asked about the title....she felt I had many facets to my personality....but I still got a good chuckle out of it). The three movements are Herbert, which is a set of variations reminiscent of Herbert L. Clarke, Rauel is a somewhat fractured waltz, and Doyle is along the lines of an Irish gig (I have a great love of celtic music). The piece is very challenging but also a very fun blow. Lots of chances for humor!

Fum Fum Fum, Contrapuntal Christmas, We Three Kings, Silent Night and Jingle Bells are all arrangements I did for my professional quartet, All the King's Tubas. Fum Fum Fum is fairly straighforward, while the rest need some descriptions. We Three Kings came from listening to too many John Williams film scores and too much Mannheim Steamroller. Silent Night is a relatively short but poignant setting that gives the 3rd part (1st tuba) a chance to shine. Contrapuntal Christmas can best be described as me with too much free time. I have always loved fugues, and decided to set out to write a fugue based on Christmas carols. Several standard carols are used as the subject, countersubject, etc.. I will be the first to say that my fugal writing could use some serious help, but the overall piece works well. Jingle Bells is probably my favorite arrangement of all times. Starting with a salute to the march king, we then race through several variations of time and ensemble. The work can be heard in the Performance Lab area of the ITEA website.

Toowaba is a tuba/euph quartet by one of out former composition graduate students here at BG, Jonathan Crane. This work explores a number of extended techniques, and places some interesting demands on the ensemble as a group. A good solid (and unusual) work, very useful for educational purposes.

¿Que Pasa? for tuba and piano was written by Eric Knechtges, formerly of BG, now working on his doctorate in composition at Indiana University. The work has a strong Latin groove, and has some fairly serious range and rhythmic demands for the soloist. A very fun piece to play.

Hope this helps....
