SOLD!!

After more than 20 years of loyal service, it is now time for me to let go of my famous Alexander 163CC. It is an extraordinary instrument, made in 1955. I have had it in my possession since 1998.

The main characteristic of this tuba is, of course, the sound. A beautiful sound, dark, very German. The playing is really even and it responds very well in all ranges.

Contrary to popular belief, pitch is really not an issue (except maybe for the middle D, which is low when played 1, but quite correct if played 1-3).

It is an overly versatile instrument, which has its place as much in orchestra as in quintet or solo. The characteristic Alex sound can blend very well in a small ensemble, and can resonate as it should in a Mahler symphony.

Of course, its appearance somewhat betrays its age... It tends to tarnish quickly, it has many bumps, but nothing that alters its sound. And I take good care of it, with a complete ultrasonic cleaning every two years or so. Last year, I had the rotary valve springs changed, and it has had a new lead pipe for about 4 years.

In short, it's an excellent tuba. A piece of history that doesn't go out of style and has proven itself.

I’m asking 5000USD/6000CAD

For my American friends (I live in Montreal, Canada), I plan to travel to Philadelphia in December. I can meet you there, or anywhere on the way.

For the interested (and serious) people, I am able to provide more details, more pictures, and even recordings, if desired.

Don't hesitate to contact me!
