Tubas star in annual Rhode Island concert

Post by Steve Marcus »

From the Jamestown Press:
"Stars, Stripes and Big Horns" is the title of the spring tubaphonia concert, which will be held on Saturday, May 13, in the North Kingstown High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

This free concert features musicians of all ages, middle school to senior citizen, playing an amazing assortment of low, conical brass horns, including baritones and euphoniums, ophecleids, cimbassos, helicons, sousaphones, and, of course, tubas.

Since the concert is the week before Armed Forces Day, musicians will feature selected military anthems and include popular patriotic sing-along numbers.

Nationally renowned tubist and conductor Gary Buttery will again lead the talented assemblage, as he has for many years.

The concert is sponsored by the Wickford Branch of Centerville Bank, the North Kingstown Arts Council, and the Rhode Island Council for the Arts.
