Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know about a concert, in which I am playing and am very excited about.
The Lancaster British Brass band will be performing a concert Saturday evening April 29, 8PM in the First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street, Lancaster, PA.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the British style brass band it is a little different than an American band in that it uses cornets (both Eb and Bb) rather than trumpets. There is also a flugelhorn, smaller English bore baritones (2) as well as two euphoniums, two tenor trombones and a bass trombone, two Eb tubas (that’s me!) and two BBb tubas. We use French horns rather than the more traditional upright alto horn (or tenor horn as they call them in England). There is also a full concert percussion section. As you can imagine the sound this group makes is absolutely wonderful and this band is jam packed with the finest brass players in the southern NJ, south eastern PA, Maryland area. (how I got in it I am not sure….)
Some highlights of the program are The Great Gate of Kiev, Valdres, Gaelforce (as the name implies…think Riverdance with brass, but no dancers), Overture for Brass Band Henry V by Vaughan Williams, Basin Street Blues featuring the trombone trio (which BTW includes Glenn Dodson formerly of the Phila. Orch.), and a few others.
The best news is the concert is free! Get there early if you want a seat. Last year at our inaugural concert at this venue there were well over 600 people and the place seats around 400-500!
If you are interested in going and need directions let me know. You could also mapquest it. It is not hard to find.
Thanks, ken k
