But where is the pic of the tuba playing "grumpy old bloke?"bloke wrote:In case you miss your plane home...I mean...find yourself in Memphis this weekend and have already seen enough dead Elvi and heard enough Beale Street 12-bar blues in E for the rest of your life, the IRIS Orchestra (Michael Stern, Music Director) is performing Sunday afternoon, October 3rd at 3:00 P.M.
The featured soloist performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto is (wow) Joshua Bell.
Bass trombone superstar and hopeless romantic, John Rojak (double wow) will be holding down the bottom on at least two fistfuls of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances...
...and a grumpy old bloke![]()
will be trying to find his place and disrupting the organized disruptions in Charles Ives' - Three Places in New England.
Yeah, the tickets are a little steep, but tickets are available for the dress rehearsal (same day - 10:30 A.M. - NOON) and are only ten bucks! The dress is almost always nearly a non-stop read-through.

That looks to be a good time.
A good friend of mine just finished up his Artist Certificate program at Rutgers studying with Mr. Rojak. He has nothing be good things to say about him, both as a player and a human.
Heres a pic of bloke trying to keep those bass players from moving in on his space in the back:

If there was any downside to the evening, it was that not all the seats were filled,Thomas Dodd. It only proved that some folks missed a sublime opportunity.

Oh, and any chance of comps for the Iris performance the Sunday before? I'm guessing not, but it's worth a try

I should be there for both. Need any help setting up, let me know. I could heplp you get that recording equipment inbloke wrote:Both the quintet and the Hartley performance are free admission, but please note that they are in two different auditoriums (about three blocks apart).
Hence, the "probably not"plus Perlman is playing,
Let me know. I'll be taking Monday off to go to Oxford, I could easily come to Memphis Sunday instead. It'd just be me though, since Alex has school Monday, and the other 2 haven't been feeling well.etc...so I probably won't know until Friday before the concert (Sunday afternoon concert, this time).

Man, looking at that schedules, I'd love to come.bloke wrote:The Saturday morning (11/19) recital (U of Memphis - Psych. Aud.) is apparently running a bit short, because John Mueller asked if I could add a piece. I'll probably, then, also do the middle mvt. of the Saint-Saëns oboe sonata (Allegretto) on the F tuba.

But I committed to See the Memphis Symphony perform Mahler 6 that day.
Not sure what time it's scheduled for, the plan was to leave here at 2, which would put us in Memphis around 5, time to eat maybe, and a 8pm start.
No way to get there without missing some/most of the recital 5-7:30
