S.A. Express-News Article on TubaMeister Christmas

Post by TubaRay »

Tuba time again:
Next week is Christmas. This weekend and beyond, music will compete with shopping and family obligations. Should you lean toward the music, interesting options abound.

TUBA TIME
At noon Saturday, one of the biggest low-brass jam sessions on the planet, the TubaMeister Christmas, the brainchild of the TubaMeister quartet, is set to take over Arneson River Theater. Lee Hipp, principal tuba of the San Antonio Symphony will conduct.

The '09 edition of the TubaMeister Christmas is the 30th annual gathering of the tuba, sousaphone, baritone and euphonium tribe. The beauty of the brassy shebang is it's open to all low-brass players and to the public. The public gets in free. The players have to pay $5 to cover the cost of the music.

Here's the deal for the musicians: Registrations starts at 9:45 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 502 E. Nueva, across from La Villita. There'll be a rehearsal from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Players are encouraged to bring lyres or music stands. The music is approximately 1 1/2 - 2 level, so even fledgling players can make a joyful noise.
