I wanted to pass the word along about Make Music New York, which takes place on June 21 in NYC. There are plans in motion to possibly do something really big with tubas/euphoniums next year for this frestival, but for now I am posting the message below as a favor to MMNY Coordinator Elizabeth Ferguson. Make Music New York is a one-day outdoor musical festival on the summer solstice. Based on the Fête de la Musique in Paris, MMNY is much more like a city holiday than a festival. Last year we had some 875 free outdoor performances, by New York City Opera singers, underground MCs, Tuvan throat singers, scores of punk bands, and more, on city streets, sidewalks, parks, and gardens, throughout NYC's five boroughs.

This year, we have a special initiative called "Mass Appeal". We're bringing together hundreds of musicians to perform pieces written for single types of instruments. Right now, over 20 groups are preparing for June 21st including clarinets, harmonicas, saxophones, french horns, electric guitars, and more, that anyone can join.

At the moment, we're looking for people interested in leading and joining an ensemble of all-Tubas. Leaders recruit a core group of musicians, select a play list, arrange a rehearsal, and are in charge on June 21st. As for MMNY, we help select a prominent outdoor location, pass city permits, and promote the event with Time Out New York, Metro New York, and WNYC.
