Eli Newberger's Jazz Tuber Trio: 7/27 Concert in Lenox, MA

Post by enewberger »

Dear friends,

In this outdoor concert, my trio will be offering jazz treatments of songs from from "Coney Island Washboard Roundelay" to "Tiger Rag." On the poster, please note the evocative tuba drawing during last year's appearance by our friend, Sol Schwartz.

A splendid exhibition of Sol's work, called "Drawing in the Dark," is now running at the Norman Rockwell Museum. Musicians are his principal subjects.

Personnel:
Ted Casher, clarinet and tenor sax
Jimmy Mazzy, banjo and vocals
Eli Newberger, tuba

If you'd like to watch a preview of the music we'll be playing, here are three links.

1. From a live performance on Liz Walker's Sunday WBZ-TV show, our version of Sholem Secunda's "Bei Mire Bist Du Schoen"

2. From a live performance at Boston's Tavern Club, noticed last Fall by Paul Krugman in his NYTimes blog, Irving Berlin's "Let's Have Another Cup of Coffee"

3. Joined by our frequent collaborators, Bob Winter, the Boston Pops's pianist, and Bo Winiker, trumpet, we offer Bessie Smith' stunning advice to men, "Put It Right Here," known also by a longer title, "He's got to get it, bring it, and put it right here, or else he's going to keep it out there:"

Warm (!) wishes,

Eli
