Chicago Chamber Musicians Brass 12/9 Naperville IL

Post by Matthew Gaunt »

Chicago Chamber Musicians brass ensemble will perform a broad range of classical music styles and showcase some of the greatest holiday compositions Dec. 9 at North Central College.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in the College's Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. Tickets are $35 and $25; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.

Since its founding in 1994, the Chicago Chamber Musicians brass ensemble has established itself as one of the foremost interpreters of the brass quintet repertoire. Comprised of five of North America's leading brass players, the ensemble presents spectacular performances of literature cornerstones.

The evening's program consists of Isaac Posch's "Two Galliards," an Early Music Suite, Maurice Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Cello, John Harbison's Two Chorale Preludes for Advent and "Three Wise Men" and a traditional performance of "Twelve Days of Christmas." For a full program listing, visit northcentralcollege.edu/show.

The performance will feature Chicago Chamber Musicians brass members Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer on trumpet, Gail Williams on horn, Matthew Gaunt on tuba and Michael Mulcahy on trombone. Cellist Clancy Newman and violinist Jasmine Lin will join the quintet for the performance.

Grammy-nominated and named 2007 Chamber Ensemble of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, Chicago Chamber Musicians has toured extensively and developed an international reputation for fresh, intimate and nuanced performances by musicians who consistently work together as an ensemble. Chicago Chamber Musicians has received two prestigious ASCAP/Chamber Music America Awards for Adventurous Programming and an ABBY Award for Arts Management Excellence from the Arts and Business Council of Chicago.
