TubaChristmas Kansas City - Monday 12/5 UPDATE

Post by Frank Byrne »

I wanted to give advance word to all TubeNet friends that the Kansas City Symphony will again host TubaChristmas in Kansas City on MONDAY December 5, 2011. For the very first time the performance will be in the new Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Kansas City.

Helzberg Hall is a truly gorgeous and superb acoustic space, and the entire Kauffman Center is amazing. Thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor, we can hold this year's event in Helzberg Hall, and we are very grateful to our donor for making this possible. Here are the details:

DATE: Monday, December 5, 2011
LOCATION: Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Helzberg Hall
(the Kauffman Center is located on Broadway between 16th and 17th streets)
REGISTRATION OPENS: 9:30 a.m.
REHEARSAL: 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Helzberg Hall
PERFORMANCE: Noon (Free and open to the public - no tickets required)
PARKING: Paid parking available in the new Arts District Garage next to the Kauffman Center, with entrances on 17th Street and Wyandotte St.

We will be creating a TubaChristmas information page on the Kansas City Symphony website next week and I will post the link when it is active. We are setting this up to allow individuals or groups to register and pay the $5 fee (for performers only) in advance.

This year's event will again be conducted by Prof. Scott Watson, Tuba Professor at the University of Kansas. Stay tuned for more information, and please pass this information to anyone you know who may want to participate.

Thanks very much,

Frank Byrne
Executive Director
Kansas City Symphony

Here are a few updates about TubaChristmas in KC via the KCS website.

https://www.kcsymphony.org/StaticCtl/TubaChristmasAct

We have set it up to allow participants to register and pay online in advance.

To those who have asked -- we had hoped to hold the event on a Friday but the Kauffman Center was not available. Based on the hall's availability and the Symphony schedule, Monday December 5th was the best date.

Please tell the students and teachers in your area, and don't miss performing in America's greatest new concert hall.

Thanks!

TubaChristmas in KC is one week from today! We have nearly 300 tuba and euph players pre-registered so if you've not already done so, please go to the KC Symphony website and do so. Walk-up registration will also be accepted.

This year's performance will be dedicated to the memory of Harvey Phillips and to Ken and Nancy Seward, prominent music educators in the the KC region for many years. Ken and Nancy's son, Steve, is the tubist with the KC Symphony. A local gentleman who loves the tuba (and who wishes to remain anonymous) has generously underwritten this year's event.

KEY TIPS:
1) Leave your cases in the car or on the bus
2) use a music lyre and if you must have a stand, bring one
3) TubaChristmas merchandise will be available for sale in the Kauffman Center Lobby

We look forward to seeing you there!
