The NEC Brass Bash will feature the entire NEC brass department, including its BSO faculty, in a variety of settings and combinations. Featured events include a world premier of NEC brass faculty Norman Bolter's Keepers of the Cosmic Seas, a concerto for tuba, brass ensemble, and percussion with Randy Montgomery '97 M.M., tuba; another of Bolter's works, Fanfare to the Rising Phoenix, will be also performed by the NEC Trombone Ensemble. Program will also feature a special performance of Ewald's Symphony for Brass by NEC brass faculty Bolter, Benjamin Wright, Peter Chapman, Daniel Katzen, and Michael Roylance; Turner's Quartet No. 3 with the New England Horn Quintet; Mauer's Four Pieces with the NEC Tuba Quintet, as well as performances by NEC students of movements from Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps, Altenburg's Concerto for clarini and timpani, and "Sokol Fanfare" from Janacek's Sinfonietta.
Also participating in this evening's Brass Bash will be NEC alum and honorary doctorate recipient Adolph"Bud" Herseth '54, '85 hon. D.M., principal trumpeter of the Chicago Symphony for 53 years. Herseth will join NEC faculty and BS0 members Charles Schlueter and Peter Chapman in Britten's Fanfare for St. Edmundsbury, and will also participate in a performance of Strauss's Feierlicher Einzug, which will be conducted by Schlueter. Earlier in the day, Herseth will lead a masterclass at NEC in Brown Hall at 2pm. Masterclass is sponsored by the Robert D. King family.
