BRAXTON COMPOSITION #19 for 100 tubas

ATTENTION FELLOW TUBISTS!
Jay Rozen here. Some of you may remember playing (or hearing) Anthony Braxton’s COMPOSITION #19 for 100 tubas (!) back in June 4, 2006 in NYC. I was in the middle of my 9-year tenure playing with Mr. Braxton’s. It was my pleasure to organize that performance as part of that year’s Bang-on-a-Can Marathon Concert.
For those of you who are hearing about this piece for the first time, COMPOSITION #19 is for 4 marching bands, each consisting of 25 tubas.
You can see part of this memorable performance here:

I’m pleased to announce that in honor of Anthony Braxton’s 80th birthday, Bang-on-a-Can will be remounting this amazing piece as part of their LONGPLAY FESTIVAL on May 3 of this year at Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn. The performance will be at 12 noon.

What really surprised me at the premier was the visual aspect of the piece. All those different tubas! Uprights to the left! Uprights to the right! Sousaphones! Helicons! Euphoniums! It was as much a delight to see as to hear!
We would like all of you to participate in this momentous event!
If you were with us in 2006, consider it a reunion!
There will be 2 rehearsals, one on May 1 and one on May 2 (location TBA). We would like each performer to attend 1 of those rehearsals.
We will supply the music.
Should you wish to participate, please email me with your contact info. (Phone numbers would be greatly appreciated). You will be supplied with regular updates about the performance.
PLEASE SHARE THIS LETTER WITH EVERYONE YOU THINK MIGHT WANT TO JOIN US ON MAY 3 at 12 NOON!
Thank you very much.
