Post by SouthsideBrass »

The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra will be having their showcase concert on Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm. The concert will be held at The Stewart School (this is a correction) in Richmond, Virginia. They will be performing the following:

Sensemaya - Revueltas
featuring Douglas Black, Jr. on Tuba
Les Preludes - Liszt
Finlandia - Sibelius

There is a cost for this concert. There will be a repeat performance at the United Methodist Church in South Hill, VA on March 12 that is FREE to the public.

Wow, that is a great program. Is he playing the solo on the Zeiss or toughing it out on his big horn.

No, Joe, I was in the Virginia Symphony down in Norfolk. Rich Serpa is the tuba player in Richmond. I don't remember who was there before him, but it wasn't me. The only time I go to Richmond is to visit monument row and to visit the grave of my wife's namesake, General Kirby Blair, no relation, but my wife is related to a whole bunch of extra's in "Gettysburg". They wore gray, BTW. Pete DeBeau, one of those great players no one ever hears about, is in the Virginia Symphony now. I appreciate the inference, but decline the compliment. BTW, I asked because I sold his son my Zeiss/Stoferized F about 18 months ago.

I'm going to play it on my CC. I think David Townsend had the RSO job before Mr. Serpa.

And Chuck that f tuba is amazing. I thank you for selling it to us. I used it in the RSO youth concerto competition and placed third over all playing the VW.

Doug,

I am very glad you like the Zeiss. It isn't pretty, but it has a whale of a sound. Congrats on the competition and make sure to keep a copy of the Revueltas and the Liszt. Good luck and happy tones!!!!
