JAPANESE TUBA VIRTUOSO TO VISIT CHICAGO

On Friday, March 24, 2006, Mr. Koji Suzuki will give a free recital and masterclass at Roosevelt University, 430 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago. The recital will be in the Ganz Recital Hall starting at 12:30 PM. The masterclass will be in Mark's Hall (Room #964) beginning at 5 PM.
Mr. Suzuki is a well-known tubist in his native Japan and is embarking on a concert tour in America in honor of his former teacher, Dr. Harvey Phillips.
Mr. Suzuki is a graduate of universities in his native Japan, America and Germany. He has been the recipient of many awards and has participated in several cultural exchange programs throughout the world. He not only has played mainstay literature for the tuba, but has promoted new music in many venues. He has been an international soloist in Italy, Australia, Germany as well as in America and Japan.
Currently he is the tubist in the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra and the Japan North Brass Ensemble.
His accompanist is his wife, Yumiko Doi. Ms. Doi has been a prize-winner in the Rachmaninoff International Piano Contest and was selected as a member of the "Live Music Now" series organized by Yehudi Menuhin. She has accompanied soloists from the Berlin Philharmonic and is a great champion of chamber music. She will also be playing a solo piano piece on this tuba recital.
This recital by Mr. Suzuki and Ms. Doi concsists of works by Pergolesi, Schumann, and Chopin among others. It is free and open to the public.
