Jon Sass workshop @New England Conservatory of Music

Post by datubaguy »

Sorry for the repost, I was just told today by the esteemed PECK, that I posted this anouuncement on the wrong part of tubenet. Woops...

I'm extremely excited to announce Jon's CREATIVE IMPULSE WORKSHOP to be held at the New England Conservatory of Music!!
It will take place over two days, Sep 23 & 24 (schedule tba). Specifics below.
I cannot say enough positive things about Jon. He is truly one of the most creative, and inspiring musicians that I have ever met, AND he also happens to play the tuba. Jon grew up in Harlem and then studied with Sam Pilafian at BU a few years back, and currently resides in Vienna. As far as the tuba playing side of Jon goes, there are VERY few on par with him. His sound, technique, musicianship, mastery of all styles, and groove are all of world-class stature. The creative side of Jon is out of this world genius. I have known Jon for several years and have been listening and watching him develop his solo CD "Sassified" with much anticipation. (check it out on his site www.jonsass.com) It is amazing.
He is truly an inspiration to me, and Im sure he is to all that come into contact with him.
This workshop is open to all, and is geared to tubists and low brass players. I would highly encourage anybody to come for all or some of the sessions. It will culminate in a concert Sunday evening. Please send me a message here if you have questions AND to let me know if you are coming in from out of town, so that I might get an idea of #'s. Please help me get the word out.
Below is Jon's promo about his workshop as well as a review of his CD.

Hope to see you there,

Mike W Roylance

CREATIVE IMPULSE is designed for classical musicians who desire more from themselves creatively. This is an intense, fun filled session for orchestra musicians who seek to expand his or her own musicianship, opportunities with adding diversity and balance to their own musical universe and aid in the evolution of their respective instruments. This workshop is especially designed for tubists and low brass players.
A common unhealthy stigmatism amongst classical musicians is the fear of improvisation and playing freely without notes. Knowing that we are truly in command of our own belief patterns is the first step in showing fear the front door!

Topics to include:

-THE CREATIVE VOICE-what it is-how it helps-how to develop it-
-CREATING YOUR OPPORTUNITIES-starts with the thought-developing the idea and realizing what it may bring!
-YOU ARE YOUR BEST RESOURCE/OBSERVING AND USING RESOURCES
-REACTING FROM AN IMPULSE
-AWARENESS OF OTHER PATHS
-CAREER STRUCTURE
-UNLIMITED SELF DISCOVERY
-NEW CONCEPTS –PERFORMANCE, CONCERT PROGRAMMING, STAGE CONCEPT AND
GROUP STYLING
- IMPROVED MUSICIANSHIP
-RECORDING & SELF PRODUCTION
- FEAR OF IMPROVISATION
-IMPROVISATION – in different genre .
-RHYTHMIC IMPULSE

THANK YOU - Mike Roylance and Jon Sass!

I am sure that I speak for everyone who attended the Jon Sass workshops and concert this weekend - they were FANTASTIC!

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to attend all events, because what I was able to get to was just GREAT!

Jon is a phenomenal player and an equally phenomenal guy! This type of event is what inspires all of us to be better players and people, and most importantly, to just enjoy what we do! Jon certainly does!

Jon - THANK YOU for sharing your wonderful artistry and time with us!

Mike - THANK YOU for putting everything together! All of your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike Milnarik

Thanks a bunch to Eli and Mike for putting this on and, of course, thanks to Jon for coming in and sharing what he does! It was well worth the 18 hours in the car (and the four of us made it back to Rochester w/o any problems). Great fun had by all. . .

thanks,
