Hi all--
UNCG will be hosting the 3rd annual Tubas in the Summer chamber music workshop June 21-24 in Greensboro, NC. This workshop is aimed at high school and amateur performers (although collegiate participants are welcomed!) The workshop is led by Demondrae Thurman, me (Dennis AsKew), Tony Granados, Brent Harvey, Seth Fletcher and Mark Norman.
The premise is this: every participant is placed in a chamber group according to ability (quartet, trio, quintet) and is coached for several hours over the weekend. Additionally, everyone takes part in a large ensemble that rehearses for several hours, as well. During well earned chop breaks, masterclasses/clinics and recitals are given by the leaders. On Sunday (the final day) we all perform in the morning in a local church, then the quartets perform for each other in recital, and finally, the large group performs with the Greensboro Concert Band in a evening concert, typically for about 4000-5000 folks.
It is an intensive 3 days, but designed to allow for maximum development as a chamber ensemble performer. The workshop fee of $50 does not include food/lodging, but a hotel list can be supplied.
A downloadable pdf can be found here: http://tonytuba.com/TubasSummer07.pdf
Please contact me for further information, as needed.
all best,
Dennis AsKew
