Hey all,

Thought I'd put out some advance warning that the DePaul Symphony Orchestra will be performing Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra at Symphony Center in Chicago next Wednesday, 30 May, at 8pm. Also on the program are Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Overture and Rococo Variations (Stephen Balderston, cello). The concert is FREE, but my understanding is that it usually fills up pretty quickly (family members, fellow students, etc.). I'd say it's good timing for everyone but me; I get to see how much of the HSO audition I can take before call (provided I advance, that is). At least the audition site is only about a mile due south of the hall.

Anyway, hope everyone taking the audition plays well; if some can make it, it'd be great to have a bunch of fellow tubists in the audience as I try to not suck on the Bartok and the long B at the end of R&J(!).

I HATE the long B! At least the Corsaire is louder and faster than I've ever played it.

Unsure of the make. The bass bonist rented this locally, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone here had played this actual instrument at some point. It sounds great on the gliss, and nothing else; thankfully, he's playing the rest of the concert on his regular horn, as one would expect.

W.A.M. - Yeah, looking forward to the long B in concert; glad you at least felt the reward of slamming through Corsair at top speed.
