Midtown Brass Quintet 8/19 5 Seasons Brewing Alpharetta, GA

Post by Tubadork »

Hey,
we are playing at the 5 Seasons Brewing in Alpharetta, GA at 5pm on Aug 19th. It should be a cool show and well, if not I've been told that they have some of the best beer in Atlanta.
check out their website:

What kind of playlist did you guys have for a brewery? I would assume that the usual Robert King quintet fare wouldn't go over too well.

You would be surprised when you mix it up and also it isn't like a bar, it's a sort-of upscale kinda place. Anyhow here was our set list:

1. Also Sprach Zarathurstra
2. Mission Impossible
3. Canzona 4
4. Tie a yellow Ribbon
5. Amparita Roca
6. When I’m 64 (Beatles Book)
7. Quintet – Kamen
8. At last
9. Londonderry Aire
10. This Will Be
11. Ob-La-Di
12. Contrapunctus 9
BREAK
13. Jump Swing Fever
14. Canzona 2
15. Green Dolphin Street
16. It’s Now or Never
17. Holst 2nd Suite (Parts)
18. Penny Lane
19. Canzona Bergamesca
20. My Heart Will Go On
21. Scherzo – Cheetham
22. James Bond
23. Bugler’s Holiday
24. El Bimbo

I know we skipped one or two, but that's the general idea.

That's quite a varied playlist - nice selection of styles!
How did you present the music? Was it like a concert setting, or more of a come-'n'-go / background music setting?
Also, how did the brewery managers react to the idea of a brass quintet?

Hey,
it was a come and go kinda thing, sort of like a jazz club concert, people eating drinking talking etc.. but still listening.

I play in the Georgia Brass Band and for the longest time we would go to the 5 seasons every thursday after rehearsal and last year the GBB played at the 5. They opened another location that wasn't big enough for the whole band and the director decided to ask us to go in their place.

:-)

Thanks! - you guys are on to something. I think it is great that you were able to play in a non-traditional venue. I hope it leads to more work for your group!
