It's time for me to post on this annual event again. Each year the Suffolk County Music Educator's Association (SCMEA), on Long Island, sponsors Howard Hovey Tuba Day. As the chairman of this event for the past 26 years, I thought that our readers might be interested in knowing about the event, which is celebrating its 27th year. Primarily geared toward middle school and high school euphonium and tuba players, we do attract college students, teachers and pros. The event will take place at the Sayville Middle School on Friday, Nov. 2 from 3-9:30 pm. Events include massed, select (All-Star), and faculty tuba ensembles rehearsals during the afternoon and a clinic by our featured guest artist. This year's artist will be Dr. Stacy Baker, renowned tuba soloist, and professor of euphonium and tuba at Morehead State University in Kentucky. The pm concert features: the Sunnyland Quartet (trad. jazz) with Art Hovey, the All-Star Tuba Ensemble, Stacy Baker, the LI Tuba Quartet, the Faculty Tuba Ensemble, and the grand finale 240 piece (or more) SCMEA Massed Tuba Ensemble. The concert is free to the public and participation in the event is $12.00 payable to SCMEA. For more info, contact me or check the SCMEA web site at www.scmea.org . It's almost here!!!! If you're in the NYC/ LI area, don't concern yourself with missing the registration deadline. You can register at the door. Currently, we have 237 student registrants. With 30 or so teacher/pros, atsa one a bigga Massed Ensemble. Should be a good time! I hope to see some of you!
