I'd like to attend but don't think there will be enough time to mail for the music and have it return in time.

Yes, there will be a few music books for sale. Come early to make sure you get one.

I have about 10 big bass clef books and a few big treble clef books.

(Oh, and for the record, nobody in WA--not me, not Mark, not Cathy, not Kadie--makes a dime off of this.)

That Helicon was something else!

Due to a morning conflict I didn't play, but my wife and I were there drinking mochas and enjoying the music. This year's indoor venue was a great improvement, both for the climate and the acoustics. The balance was just great between all four parts without being muddy.

Nice to have met Santos and his Army Band buddies. First time I've ever seen a helicon! As usual, Cathy Cole did a stellar job conducting. A big crowd stayed all the way 'till the end. Thanks for organizing the event, Ryan.

I think we have an exceptionally good TubaChristmas here in the "Greater Seattle Area".

I agree, Mark. It was fun.

It was my public debut as a tuba player. I didn't play too well but in a situation such as Tuba Christmas, I don't think anyone could tell.

Using a military term, I was right in the 'line of fire' of Santos' helicon. The Rangers train at Ft. Lewis where he is based and I think he should offer up that thing as a special weapon. Of course, he would have to be a Ranger, too, to operate it but he looked tough enough to be a Ranger if he wanted to be.

It looked to be a sea of German horns. The only other American recording bell horn that I could tell was the Santos' 22J being played by one of his buddies who was military or just like to shave all his hair off. My brother and my young nephews attended and they teased me that I looked like a bag lady because I loaded my two cases for my horn (King with recording bell) in a shopping cart to bring them in from my car in the parking lot. A 3/4 in a backpack looks appealing right now.

We were well received and a good time was had by all. There is another on in Bellingham, WA about 75 miles north of Seattle on Dec. 1 and, now that I have the book of music, I might attend that one too and make a better accounting of myself. For $5, it's pretty cheap thrills!

Us Army guys had a lot of fun at the recent Tuba Christmas. Ryan and gang did an excellent job putting it together and was a resounding success! It was nice to meet Tubenetters there and put a name to a face (Ryan, Norm, etc.).

Big Ben, sorry about the line of fire situation I 'put' you in. I failed to follow directions set forth earlier and showed up about 10 minutes prior to downbeat (having had lunch at the nearby Chili's with my buds) and was arse-out-of-luck for a spot. Hopefully the helicon didn't rattle yer brain too much! Did I mention that the horn doubles as a bazooka

Yeah, there were a lot of German horns in attendance. I had the pleasure of tooting on my neighbor Ben's new 3/4 MW F, which I'm going to have to think long and hard about as a future addition to the 'family.' That C Saxhorn in the front row was pretty cool, too.

Will try to make it to Bellingham on the 1st. See you there!

That's fine, Santos.... I enjoyed the sound. Quite fitting for a military bandsman to have a helicon for it was designed for military bands on horseback. It probably would be better as a mortar launcher...

I'm thinking of making Bellingham on 12/1. Now that I have the music, I can practice it a bit and do better on the playing front... Maybe I'll see everyone there.
