Sunday, April 6th at 8pm, I will be doing a recital in the parking garage across from the Texas State University-San Marcos Music Building. The program will include a wide variety of both works and performers (other than me, no one plays on more than one piece). Here's the Facebook link:

In a parking garage?

Yep...in a parking garage. I started practicing there last fall when, all of a sudden, it became the "cool" thing to practice your instrument. This meant that I could never get into a practice room when I normally could, so, I had to find a different place to practice. I chose the parking garage and was thrilled when I realized that the acoustics in the place were so awesome.
After a while of going out there to practice, I started having professors comment on how good I sounded in there until one of my professors suggested that I do a concert in there. My studio teacher thought it was a good idea, too. So, yes, I'm doing a recital in a parking garage. It really is the best acoustical space for a tuba player on the Texas State University-San Marcos Campus.

A parking garage? Never would have guessed that! I can't even imagine how live the acoustics must be. But yet again I have never played in a parking garage. Anyways, very "cool" idea

Having done it for awhile, I must say that, as a tuba player, you haven't lived until you've played in a parking garage. Also, it's really great for opening up your sound as a parking garage is a bit of a challenge to fill. Either that, or because it just sounds so cool you want to hear more of it, so you end up playing a lot louder.
