The University of Northern Iowa tuba ensemble UNITUBA, under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Funderburk, will be giving a recital this Thursday, April 24th at 8:00 P.M. The recital will be held in Davis Hall, at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the UNI campus, Cedar Falls, IA.
Here's the promo poster we've been putting up all over the place.

For those who can't make it in person, you can watch it online via a live webcast. All that you need to do is click on this link at the time of the concert, along with the free media player RealPlayer, (which can be easily downloaded from the Real website, here: http://www.realplayer.com/)

The theme of the recital will be "An Evening of Avant Garde."
The program consists entirely of 20th century music, with some pretty cool styles being presented. Here's a round-up of the pieces being played:
John Cage Atlas eclipticalis (1961)
for any ensemble 0 to 86 instruments, premiered by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic - a work using star charts to aid in note selection
Eric Ewazen Devil Septet (1972)
a work written during his freshman year at Eastman School of Music as a student of Joseph Schwantner - 4 tubas, 2 percussionists and piano
Greg Shapley Machine (1997)
created from the constituent elements of digital computers - eight-bit binary digits (eight ones or zeros) provide the source material for the pitch and rhythm.
We are pleased to also be presenting 2 new works by UNI student composers:
Rondo alla Burk (2008) by Marc Wigim
Voices of America (2008) by Aaron Hynds for tuba ensemble and electronic media
Overall, I think this will be a cool recital! Along with the songs themselves, there will be other interesting things going on, so it should be a blast. Hope you can make it!
