Pokorny Seminar at Redlands (contact info)

Gene Pokorny, principal tuba of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will conduct an intensive tuba seminar at the University of Redlands School of Music. Limited to 7 performers and 40 auditors, the seminar will focus on achieving the highest levels of practice, preparation and performance. Performers will have daily individual lessons with Mr. Pokorny as well as master classes, excerpt coaching, a mock orchestral audition and a concluding solo and ensemble performance. Auditors will be able to join the group warm-ups and to observe the master classes, lessons and performances.

To apply as a performer you must submit a one page resume, a CD recording of a standard solo work and 5 orchestral excerpts and a $25 application fee. Tuition for participants is $650 due at the time of acceptance. The application deadline for participants is May 1, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be sent by May 19, 2008.

Auditors will be selected on a first come/first served basis with preference given to those that plan to attend the entire seminar. The cost to audit is $50/day, from June 11-15, or $200 for the entire seminar. Housing is available in air-conditioned dormitories with single rooms starting at $21.50 per night.
