I'm sorry for the late notice, but I wanted to let you know that I'll be doing a short mid-day recital at Biola University's Crowell Hall this Wednesday, Sep. 24 at 12:30pm. Brian Hanke will be accompanying me on Koetsier's Sonatine, Vaughan Williams' Six Studies in English Folksong, Debussy's General Lavine - Eccentric and Plog's Three Miniatures.

Parking is free (campus guests can feel at liberty to ignore all but the handicap parking restrictions) and it'd be great to hang out afterward. If you've not been to Crowell Hall at Biola before, it's best to enter campus from La Mirada Blvd (turn at University Drive, between Imperial and Rosecrans) then follow the signs to Crowell Hall. I'm excited to present this program and I hope you'll come!

With warm regards,
Chuck

Not a silly question at all. General Lavine appears in piano solo form in Debussy's Preludes, Book 2. I've never heard the orchestral version. Actually the first version I ever heard was Gene Pokorny's recording of William Schaefer's transcription for solo tuba with piano.

Was the orchestral version a Debussy adaptation? or someone else's arrangement?

And as far as the 'solo version' goes, Mr. Schaefer's adaptation was basically to use the piano solo version and pull out the melodic lines for solo tuba. I never looked to see if there was a printed copy of his version. I just got the part from the Preludes book and my pianist and I spent three minutes bracketing out the parts he didn't have to play. I never even thought to look for an actual printed copy!!
