Sunday March 28th, Brass Pacifica will be playing for the second half of a concert at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in Rolling Hills, CA (south of Los Angeles, near where the 110 meets PCH). The first half will be featuring the elementary brass students of Jason Foltz, and the second half will be our quintet, Brass Pacifica. We'll be doing Simple Gifts (Copland/Villanueva), Four Sketches (Plog) and some lighter stuff. Admission is free! Here are the details:

The Chicago Brass Band, under the direction of Dr. Colin Holman, invites you to experience the virtuosity and effervescence of world-renown trumpet soloist, Crispian Steele-Perkins, on his final U.S. tour. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 20th at 8:00 p.m. at Crystal Lake South High School, 1200 S. McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, IL.

Crispian Steele-Perkins is well known to concert and radio audiences as a full-time trumpet soloist, and his career has embraced a wide spectrum of musical experience - dance band, symphony orchestra, opera orchestra, film soundtracks and TV signature tunes. With the emergence of historically-informed performances, Crispian Steele-Perkins became interested in collecting, restoring and learning to play early trumpets and his collection currently boasts more than one hundred pre-1900 mechanized and 'natural' trumpets. Considered by many to be the world's leading player of the natural trumpet, he now performs and records regularly with many of the most eminent period instrument ensembles. As a soloist, Crispian Steele-Perkins gives lecture recitals with keyboard accompaniment. 'Though frequently recorded, there are surprisingly few versions of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto which one would be happy to experience on a regular basis but this is certainly one of them. Steele-Perkins's playing is concerned with shape and decorum, not just demonstrative virtuosity." Gramophone. The concert will feature solos and natural trumpet demonstrations by Crispian Steele-Perkins, including the Haydn Trumpet Concerto and Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets with CBB's soprano cornet player, Guy Clark. CBB's percussion section, Teralyn Trace-Keith, Andrew Keith, and Mark Taylor, will treat us to a percussion ensemble piece that they will perform at the North American Brass Band Association competition in April. The concert will also include pieces the band will perform at the same competition.
