UPDATE:
(Yes, I know there is a thread designed for that. Just bear with me.)

The 30th Annual TubaMeister Christmas took place yesterday, and was an overwhelming success. There were 141 participants and an audience of approximately 400. Lee Hipp did his usual excellent job of rehearsing, conducting, and emceeing(is that a word?) the event. The temperature was in the 70's and quite comfortable. Oddly enough, the temperature right now in S.A. is 41 degrees, with a high of 46 being forecast for today.

For me, the day began with me warming up in the drainage ditch just in front of the WOAI radio studios, at 6:00 a.m. For those wondering about that, I didn't want to wake my wife that early. The TubaMeisters were on the air with Bill Rohde from 7:05 to 7:30 a.m. We played three tunes and got a chance to promote the concert.

We performed the tunes in the TubaMeister book for the concert, plus the TubaMeisters played several tunes, giving the others a chop break. The atmosphere was really nice. For those not at all familiar with San Antonio, the Arneson River Theater has seating on one side of the river and a bridge across the river to provide access to the stage. River "barges" pass by every 5-10 minutes with loads of tourist on them. They sometimes pause to listen for a minute or so, and then move on down the river. This concert has so much charm. I don't know how else to describe it. People in both the ensemble and the audience leave with smiles on their faces. We absolutely had a great time, this year.

To cap all of this off, the TubaMeisters performed for a city function later that evening. This boy went home tired, but happy.
