Live from Lincoln Center 9-21-04!
It is on your PBS Channel. Al Baer will be playing 9/21, and although there isn't a whole lot of tuba, you can see him in Dvorak 9. Plus, Vengerov playing the Beethoven concerto.

It would vary according to your location. It is on right now in Colorado, started at 7. Beethoven Violin Concerto is first...

I tuned in after the 14 tuba notes. But i have some comments:
Maazel looks like he is having a good time. The orchestra sounds generally better than when Masur was holding the stick.
Phil Smith still sounds great. His pitch and precision are excellent.
Don Harwood sounds fantastic. From what I have heard, he has been really been keeping in shape for the last few years and it is noticable. Solid sound and good pitch without and crass on some of the good blows in the Dvorak 9th.
Can the NYPO please stop playing Dvorak 9th. I don't care if they did premier this piece...
I wish these orchestras would play something new. Hell, I'd love to be able to hear at least one other version of Kallinikov's (sp?) 1st symphony played sometime!
All in all a very good performance. Maazel even treated the crowd to a bit of an encore, something some conductors believe is too cliche.
What else was on the program? Mozart? Beethoven?
