Is this weekend! In Old Sacramento, and downtown (where some bigger venues are). Not specifically a tuba deal, but it started as a dixieland/traditional jazz festival, so there will be plenty of groups that use a tuba/sousaphone....

I had some great times over there two or three Mem. Day weekends in the early 1980's. They REALLY work your tail off (several one-set gigs/day, and spread all over town in all sorts of venues), but (if it is like it was back then) they pour adult beverages down the gullets of band members - as long as they are onstage performing.
Yeah, it's pretty much the same....though they go a bit easier on the adult beverages, as many of the trad/dixie groups are not so young anymore. Heard some neat playing last night, and some quite solid HS age players as well (they have a couple of venues where they sneak in HS bands).

a couple of the Old Sac bars that don't participate offer free cover to festival band members to the shows they have (usually RnB or 'classic rock' shows).
