Need: tuba and euphonium players for the 2010 Armed Forces Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble: 27-30 January at Fort Myer, VA.
Each January, The US Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” hosts a four-day Tuba/Euphonium conference. Every day is packed with concerts, master classes, recitals, and lectures, given by leading low-brass authorities from around the world. The 2010 conference will open Wednesday, January 27, and end Saturday, January 30.
A highlight of each conference is the performance by the Armed Forces Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble (AFTEE), a group comprised of military tuba and euphonium players from the U.S. and abroad. This is an open invitation to your tuba and euphonium players to participate in the 2010 AFTEE performance on Friday, January 29. Historically, sixty to eighty military musicians take part in AFTEE. This marks the 27th anniversary of our conference (and AFTEE), and we would like as many military performers on stage as possible.
AFTEE participation is open to CURRENT Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserve military band members. Rehearsals for the AFTEE performance begin on Wednesday, January 27, at 1600 and continue for two days, ending in the Friday night performance. Rehearsals take place at Brucker Hall on Ft. Myer. The dress rehearsal and concert are at the nearby Kenmore Middle School auditorium. The attire for the performance is dress blues (or your unit’s equivalent), and musicians must bring their own instruments.
While in attendance, musicians are encouraged to attend the other events of the conference. The concerts, clinics and training sessions provide an opportunity for our military musicians to share their expertise and knowledge with students, faculty, and other professionals. See you in January!
