This will be Kanstul's first visit to ITEC and we're really looking forward to introducing our products to the community-at-large. We're bringing several instruments:

All the new York-style 4/4 tubas including two BBb models, two EEb (non-compensating, but you won't mind!) models and a terrific and highly anticipated CC model.

Two different models of compensating euphonium - our Model 975 fixed bell and mouthpipe, and the new Model 976 (as played by Loren Marsteller) with removable bell and floating mouthpipe.

Also on hand will be our three and four valve (inline and 3+1 non-compensating) euphoniums for the tuba player who may be called upon to double on occasion.

In the booth will be Kanstul factory rep Charles (that's me!) - a trumpet player (so please talk slow, ok?), Justin Jerome - a terrific young professional player here in LA, and the notable Lee Stofer (the Tubameister himself).

It's going to be a great week, so come by and introduce yourselves and try the new tubas that are already being played by top principals in the US!

This is my review (one should take it with a grain of salt, although I think one would find that a more objective view would probably line up with my observations) of ITEC:

It's about a day longer than most shows Kanstul has done in the past (ITG, ITA, etc) but the "elephant room" saw hundreds of very talented players at all levels - from student to adult enthusiast to professional. Everyone was curious about the new tubas, and they received a lot of attention, with each player coming away with a positive experience.

There were some educators who appreciated the ease and intonation of our BBb tubas, and Tom Holtz of the “The President's Own” United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C. very much enjoyed our Eb tubas. The one that received the most attention by far was the new Model 90 CC tuba!! Some folks noticed that the first slide is somewhat difficult to reach (Zig Kanstul's argument is that the horn is in tune and that the player needn't worry too much about the slide), but this can be addressed.

We received dozens of requests for an F tuba, which, I'm happy to report, is "on paper" with tooling and a prototype coming in the summer.

Norm Pearson visited the booth and was impressed with what he heard, but declined to play (which is not unusual for him). He inquired about having Zig a bell for him from the special "York" alloy, from which we make the bells on the new tubas.

While at the show, I received word from Zig Kanstul that Gene Pokorny will be visiting southern California in June to give a low brass seminar: http://www.redlands.edu/x35340.asp, but the best news is that he'll be showing and demonstrating several of our new tubas! As well, he'll bringing the CSO York "number 1" for your viewing and listening pleasure!

Over all, for our first appearance at ITEC it could be considered quite a success, so thanks to the community for your acceptance and enthusiasm!
