Clint McCanless Masterclass - Nov 12 in Canton, OH

Clint McCanless will be presenting a masterclass at Kent State University - Stark Campus on November 12, beginning at 6:15 pm in the Main Hall Auditorium. Joining Clint will be Martin Vazquez, a percussion educator from Hyannis, MA.
The title of the masterclass is "Planning and Practicing: Creating a Strategy for Successful Performance." Martin and Clint will share their insight into how to properly examine and prepare musical phrases for performance.

Clinton McCanless - Originally from the Chicago area, Clinton McCanless is currently completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at Michigan State University. He holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education, and a Masters of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In addition to being a winner of the 2009 Honors Concert Competition at MSU, Clinton has won first prize at the 2008 International Tuba Euphonium Association competition, and the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba competition in 2009. He has been featured as a soloist with the Chicago Brass Band, MSU Wind Symphony, and the ITEC Festival Orchestra in Ohio. As an ensemble musician, Clinton performs regularly with the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra as well as other orchestras throughout Michigan, and recently performed several concerts on tour with the Dallas Brass.
Clinton is an active educator, having taught at summer programs at the University of Illinois, Michigan State University, and at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. He has held several collegiate teaching positions, including Lecturer of Music at Oakland University, and graduate assistantships at both Illinois and Michigan State. Clinton is currently on the music faculty at Spring Arbor University, where he teaches lessons to brass majors and classes in music appreciation.
Martin Vazquez - Since 1981 Martin Vazquez has been a Percussion Educator based in Hyannis, MA. He is the founding director of the Cape Cod Latin Jazz All-Stars. Martin attended the Berklee College of Music focusing on Music Education and Music Production/Engineering. He has performed extensively throughout the northeast ranging from Boston's Symphony Hall to intimate jazz clubs. The competitive percussion ensembles under Martin's direction have received top honors at local, regional, national and international competitions, including Winter Guard International World Championships and World Association of Marching Show Bands World Championships. Martin is
endorsed by Vater Percussion and produces his signature MV-series of sticks and mallets. Martin is a frequent guest clinician at music programs around the country, specializing in methods to create rhythmic integrity and pulse control for non-percussionists.
