When Gunther Schuller asked me to premiere his piece, of course I said that I'd love to but I didn't know the back story to the piece nor how difficult it is. To my knowledge this piece is the last commission by the late, great Harvey Phillips who spent his life commissioning new works for the tuba. Mr. Phillips and Mr. Schuller were lifelong friends so this piece is special on many, many levels. I'm very honored to be premiering it on Feb. 15, 2011 with the BU Symphony Orchestra. I'm hoping to stream it, so check back for more info.
